King’s Korner Catering has been a client of Key Web Concepts (Emerge’s parent company) since before the Emerge division existed. In 2012, their website was one of the first ones. Regrettably, the website had not undergone a complete redesign since then. This made for a non-mobile friendly website that was over 7 years old.

With the major shifts in user behavior in the years since 2012, mobile phones have become the primary tool for researching and reading online information about small businesses. King’s Korner Catering, with their website still requiring pinch-zoom to read the text, was essentially living in the dark ages.

The new website design for King’s Korner Catering ditched many of the outdated web design elements by delivering a cleaner, mobile-friendly look. While the custom websites that Key Web builds can range upwards of $5,000 and worth every penny for clients looking for custom features, using a theme customizer gave King’s Korner the most bang for their buck. Emerge was able to give the website a royal upgrade that aligned with the latest in web design technology and trends for a fraction of what a custom-coded website might cost.

Catering to King’s Korner’s Users

Because King’s Korner purchased a monthly SEO plan to go alongside their website, we have had a unique perspective on usage statistics before we even began to redesign the website.

We knew, for example, that more mobile phone users accounted for 48.9% of website visitors while only 44.4% of visitors viewed the website on their desktop. We also knew that people who clicked on the website from Google were searching “kings corner menu” almost as often as they were searching “kings korner.”

Emerge was able to use this data, combined with statistics about which web pages were visited the most to determine the website’s site structure and content strategy. The new website helps users quickly get to what they are looking for with catering and buffet menus crowned at the top of the page. No more clicking around.
